Did you know Japan has a robbery that turned into a modern legend? In 1968,
in Tokyo, a man dressed as a police officer stopped a bank money transport car that
was carrying 300 million yen. He warned the guards that there was a bomb underneath
their vehicle. Then smoke began rising from below the truck. Believing it was
about to explode, the guards ran for their lives. But the “bomb” was just a smoke flare.
The man calmly transferred the money into his vehicle, got back on his police-style motorcycle,
and disappeared into city traffic. No fingerprints. No suspect. No arrest.
The money was never recovered — and the man was never identified. It became Japan’s
