Jezebel: A Warning Against Deception

Few names in the Bible carry the weight and warning that the name Jezebel does.

Even today, her name is used to describe a certain kind of influence—seductive, controlling,

and destructive. But to understand why, we have to go back to who she really

was and what she represented. Jezebel was a queen, the wife of King Ahab of Israel,

and she came from a foreign nation that worshiped false gods. The Bible tells

us that she did not simply practice idolatry quietly—she aggressively spread it.

She used her position, her power, and her influence to turn an entire nation away from

the worship of the true God and toward the worship of Baal. Under her influence, altars to false
