Joseph: Betrayed, Yet the Dream Lives

JOSEPH —The Pit and the Betrayal Genesis 37 Joseph never expected obedience to lead

him here. As he came near to his brothers in the field, they saw him afar

off. Before he ever reached them, they spoke against him.

The words were sharp and mocking—“Behold, this dreamer cometh” (Genesis 37:19). The dreams God had

given Joseph became the very reason he was rejected. They took him. They stripped Joseph

of his coat, the coat of many colours his father had given him, and they cast him

into a pit. The Bible tells us the pit was empty; there was no water in it (Genesis 37:24).

Joseph was alive, but alone, surrounded by silence where love should have been.
