Josh Radnor's Office Audition Misstep

Josh Radnor almost played Jim on The Office before landing How I Met Your Mother. The actor auditioned

for the iconic role that eventually went to John Krasinski, but admits he completely misread the character.

Radnor thought Jim might be dim-witted and couldn't figure out if he was supposed to be smart or not.

His improvs during the audition made the character seem too dumb. Looking back,

he realizes he just didn't understand the tone. Krasinski nailed it as the funny,

snarky but sweet paper salesman, and Radnor became Ted Mosby instead. Both shows ran for

nine seasons, so clearly everyone ended up exactly where they belonged.
