Loyalty vs. Morality

I walked into the supply closet and found Dr. Martinez kissing the patient's husband.

The same patient whose life support we're debating tomorrow. She doesn't know her husband signed

a DNR last week. But I know why. He inherits everything if she dies. Martinez gets the

husband. I get this secret burning a hole in my chest. The ethics board

meets in six hours. I could save her life with one sentence. But Martinez is my best friend.

She covered for me when I made that medication error. The one that could've ended my career.

Now I'm standing at the nurses' station, staring at her patient's chart. My finger hovers

over the call button. Do I destroy my friend to save a stranger? Or do I let silence
