Mirror's Curse

Maya downloaded a new AR “mirror” app that promised to make selfies spooky.

It was supposed to add fake shadows, ghosts, little jump scares. Fun.

That night, she opened the app and pointed her camera at her bedroom mirror.

She laughed when the filter put a pale figure behind her — cheap, low-res,

nothing impressive. But then the figure moved after she put the phone down. The real mirror

showed someone standing there, in the dark corner of her room. She whipped her

head around — nothing. When she looked back, the figure was closer in the reflection.

The app’s filter wasn’t running anymore. Her phone buzzed with a notification: “New update detected.
