My Path to Claim

Coffee, steam curls and morning light. I sip it slow.

No need to fight. The traffic hums a steady tune. Beneath the sky

that's lost its gloom. My boots click loud on wet concrete.

No ghost of you walks down the street. Now the sun finds me anyway.

Painting gold on yesterday. I carry nothing but my name. And every step

feels just the same. This is my path to claim. Saw a couple

arguing near the park. She stormed off fast into the dark.

I almost called out. Then I smiled. Remembered how I ran that mile
