Names Written in the Sky

They landed on a cloud that looked suspiciously like a lopsided pillow. Catherine lay back

and stared at the stars waking up one by one. Franklin curled beside her,

warm and solid, his breathing steady. "Promise we'll always do this," Catherine said.

Franklin licked her hand, which was his way of promising forever. When they floated

back down, the night welcomed them quietly. Catherine's feet touched the porch

again. The secret folded itself away, safe for another day.

Inside, Franklin curled up and sighed. Catherine smiled, knowing that no

matter how ordinary tomorrow looked, the sky would always remember their names.
