Octopus Intelligence and Unique Biology

Did you know that octopuses are among the most intelligent animals on the planet? In addition to having

three hearts and blue blood, they possess a very unusual nervous system: more than

half of their neurons are located in their tentacles, which can move and “make decisions”

almost independently of the brain. Octopuses can solve complex problems, open jars,

use objects as tools, and remember solutions over time. Some species can even camouflage

themselves by changing the color, shape, and texture of their skin in a fraction

of a second, becoming almost invisible to predators.
