My parents called me an asshole for not helping them when they're broke, but when I asked
for ten dollars for food they said no. Growing up, every time I needed
something basic like lunch money or school supplies, it was always "we don't have money
for that" or "figure it out yourself." I learned to work part-time jobs just to afford necessities
while watching them spend on whatever they wanted. Now that I'm older and finally stable,
suddenly I'm selfish for not opening my wallet every time they call with another financial
emergency. The same people who made me feel guilty for needing ten dollars are
now expecting hundreds from me without any shame. It's wild how parents can deny you basic
