Parenting: The Real Life Negotiation Game

School taught us that sharing is caring but nobody prepared me for the absolute warfare

that breaks out when my kids discover I've eaten the last biscuit. They said communication

solves everything yet here I am negotiating with a three year old who's convinced the floor is lava

and refuses to put on shoes. School made sharing sound like this beautiful cooperative

experience where everyone wins. Reality check, my toddler hoards snacks like she's

preparing for the apocalypse and sharing means I get the broken bits of whatever she doesn't want.

The communication skills they taught us work brilliantly until you're trying to explain why we

can't have ice cream for breakfast to someone who thinks logic is a foreign language.
