Plassey: India Bought, Not Conquered

A small trading company defeated one of India's richest kingdoms without firing a single

shot. The Battle of Plassey in 1757 was not won with cannons or courage.

It was won with cash. British traders bribed the Nawab's own commanders.

Gold changed hands in secret. Promises were whispered behind closed doors. When the battle

began, thousands of Indian soldiers stood frozen, swords drawn but silent.

Their generals had already sold them out. By sunset, Bengal had fallen.

Not to an empire. To a corporation. That day, India was not conquered. India was bought.
