Paragraph 1 – Push Factors: One of the main push factors causing migration was how
difficult it was to live in Britain after the war. During World War II,
the Blitz destroyed approximately two million homes, leaving families in cramped or temporary
housing. Food and fuel were not available until 1954, and unemployment
and inflation made rebuilding a normal life difficult. In 1946, the year when one
of the coldest winters on record was experienced by Britain, there were worse shortages of coal
and heating. Many also felt hopeless with the extremely slow recovery of Britain,
as it took years for damaged cities like London and Coventry to rebuild. These hardships
