In the 1950s, during the height of the Cold War, the United States feared one thing

above all else: mind control. What followed was Project MKUltra, a secret CIA program

designed to see if the human mind could be broken, erased, or controlled.

Without consent, thousands of people were experimented on, including soldiers,

prisoners, hospital patients, and everyday civilians. Some were given powerful drugs like

LSD. Others were subjected to hypnosis, isolation, sleep deprivation,

and psychological torture. Many never knew they were part of an experiment.
