Promoting Equality for Persons with Disabilities

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was established by the United Nations in

1992 to promote understanding and mobilize support for the dignity and rights of people

with disabilities. Over 1.3 billion people worldwide live with significant disabilities,

that's 16 percent of the global population. Each year brings a theme addressing barriers they face,

from accessibility to employment discrimination. Observing this day matters because people with disabilities

remain among the most marginalized groups. They experience higher poverty rates,

limited healthcare access, and exclusion from education and jobs. Current conditions

show progress is painfully slow. Many buildings lack ramps, websites ignore
