Your ambition can literally cost you your head if you don't watch your back.
Back in 456 AD, King Rechiar of the Suebi thought he was untouchable. He was raiding Roman
Spain and stacking cash, but he made a massive mistake by ignoring the Visigoths.
King Theodoric II, who was basically Rome’s hired muscle, marched in and absolutely destroyed Rechiar’s
army at the Battle of the Órbigo River. Rechiar tried to flee to what is now Portugal to
catch a boat and escape, but his luck ran out. On December 27,
he was captured and executed immediately. This brutal moment shifted power in Europe forever,
proving that even kings crumble when they push their luck too far against the wrong enemies.
