The war on drugs generates 120 billion dollars annually for organized crime and terrorist groups.
Think about that. Every minute, drug traffickers earn 200,000 dollars because drugs are
illegal. Without prohibition, these networks wouldn't exist. Here's what nobody
talks about: our drug laws don't stop consumption or production. They just create
massive profits for criminals while costing us our privacy rights and filling prisons.
Portugal figured this out and switched to a health-based approach with harm reduction.
Meanwhile, we're still asking the wrong question. It's not about legalizing or not.
It's about finding the best way to regulate substances that people will use anyway.
