Russian christmas is not what you think. Instead of celebrating it on December 25th,
they celebrate on January 7th because they use the Julian calendar and the celebration lasts
for six days. First lets talk about some traditions of Russian Christmas On New Years Eve
its a popular tradition to watch "the irony of fate" (Ирония судьбы) It's a romantic comedy about a man
who drinks too much and gets very lost after having a sauna with some of his friends.
This Christmas Eve meal is "The Holy Supper", The family gathers around the table
to honor the coming Christ child. A white tablecloth symbolizes Christ's swaddling clothes
and hay is displayed as a reminder of the poverty of the place where Jesus was born.
