Russia’s 1917 Revolution: From Tsar to USSR

Russia, 1917. A vast empire, but its people are starving.

Rulers live in palaces while workers freeze. Russia is ruled by Tsar Nicholas II,

an absolute monarch. World War I worsens hunger, inflation, and death.

Anger spreads through factories, villages, and the army. In February 1917,

workers strike for bread. Soldiers refuse orders. The Tsar abdicates,

ending Romanov rule. A new government promises change but continues the war and ignores

the people. Lenin and the Bolsheviks gain support across Russia. In October 1917,

the Bolsheviks seize power. Russia becomes the world’s first socialist state—the USSR.
