The Loneliness of Immortality

Vampires aren't the monsters we think they are. I met one last month at

a coffee shop. She told me the truth nobody wants to hear. She's been alive

for three hundred years. Watching everyone she loves grow old and die while

she stays frozen at twenty-five. The hardest part isn't the blood. It's pretending to

be human when you remember how it felt. She falls in love every few

decades, knowing it will end the same way. We romanticize their

immortality, but we never talk about the loneliness that comes with it.
