Seconds to Choose: Silence or Report

I walked in on my attending kissing the patient's husband in the supply closet. My hands were still

shaking from a twelve hour surgery. He saw me. Didn't say a word. Just stared.

Next morning he assigned me to his wife's post op care. She's coding now. He's watching me

from the gallery. My co resident knows what I saw. She says I should report him.

But he controls my entire future here. Every recommendation. Every reference.

My career dies if I speak up. His patient dies if I stay quiet. The monitors are

screaming. I have seconds to decide. What would you do?
