In 1974, a British research team tested sensory deprivation. One volunteer entered

a soundproof, lightless room. No sound. No light. No sense of time.

The test was planned for one hour. After 15 minutes, the volunteer pressed the panic button.

Nothing happened. The intercom failed. The door lock didn’t respond. Technicians regained

control 6 minutes later. The volunteer was conscious. But couldn’t speak.

He later described hearing voices that knew things he didn’t say out loud.
