Shadows Defeat Steel in Laghman Ambush

The Soviet vehicles tried to push forward, but the path was narrow and twisting. Within minutes,

the front tank was hit… then the rear vehicle… trapping the entire column in place.

The Mujahideen advanced from the heights, using the shadows as cover. Some fighters slid

down the slopes, cutting off any surviving soldiers. Others targeted fuel trucks — and

when they exploded, the whole valley lit up like daylight. Soviet commanders desperately called

for air support, but the mountains blocked their signals. They were truly alone.

By dawn, the battle was over. Dozens of Soviet soldiers were killed, several captured

alive, and tons of ammunition, weapons, and supplies were seized.
