Shadows We Carry

Sand in my teeth can't wash the dust away. Every night replays

like déjà vu on replay. Brothers beside me, we walked through the flames.

Now I'm home but I'm haunted by faces without names. The silence is

louder than the firefight ever was. Nobody understands the weight of what I've done.

Because they don't see what I see when I close my eyes at night.

They can't feel what I feel when I'm paralyzed by fright. These are the

shadows we carry. Scars that nobody can see. We came back but we're still

out there. Fighting wars inside of me. Brothers falling, sisters broken.
