We met on a summer night under fairground lights. Her laugh was a song and her eyes
felt right. We talked about nothing till the stars slipped away. And by fall we were
picking out a wedding day. We bought a fixer-upper with a wraparound porch.
Built a swing, planted daisies, lit dreams with a torch. Painted the spare
room in soft shades of blue. Hung up a mobile believing love would pull us through.
But the cradle never rocked and the lullaby stayed quiet. Every month we prayed felt like a funeral
in disguise. She'd cry in the bathroom, I'd hold her in the dark.
Both breaking apart with a silent kind of spark. No pitter patter feet,
