They didn’t just allow slavery. They wrote it into law. Before there was
a United States, before there was a flag, before the word freedom became a
slogan, a decision was made that would stain centuries. In 1619,
Africans were dragged onto the shores of Virginia not as prisoners of war,
not as migrants, but as property. And instead of stopping it, the system embraced
it. Step by step. Law by law. At first, it was called “indenture,”
a lie dressed as patience. But soon, colonial lawmakers removed the end
date. Black skin became a lifetime sentence. Children inherited chains at birth.
