Strategic Imbalance for System Stability

“Eliyahu Goldratt wrote in The Goal that trying to give every station equal capacity creates

system instability. When variation occurs—and it always does—balanced systems overload instantly because

there’s no buffer to absorb fluctuations. The bottleneck becomes unpredictable, queues explode,

and throughput collapses. Goldratt’s point is that stable systems require strategic imbalance: non-constraints

must have excess capacity to protect the constraint and keep flow consistent.”
