Stuck in a Summer Memory

Camp's all packed, the cabins bare. Horse trails quiet in the morning air.

Kids drive off in their parents' cars, but I'm still stuck beneath burnt

stars. Game machines spit coins like lies, tastic treasures in a world that

dies. A firecracker's lit in my back jean fold, I feel like

I'm stuck hot, but also cold. Why can't I leave when they're waving goodbye?

Why is there smoke in my chest and a tear in my eye?

Campfire's gone, but the embers remain, I'm still on the grounds with

a pocket full of flame. If freedom's a gate, then mine's rusted
