The first Thanksgiving was basically a survival party that almost never happened. Think about it.
In 1620, the Pilgrims sail across the ocean on the Mayflower. After 66 brutal
days, they land in what’s now Massachusetts and build their settlement,
Plymouth. But that first winter was a complete disaster. The cold, the hunger,
and the disease were so bad that nearly half of them didn't make it to spring.
Their new life was on the verge of collapse. Then, a turning point.
They met the Wampanoag, the Native American tribe that had called the land home for centuries.
A Wampanoag man named Squanto became their guide. He taught the struggling settlers everything:
