In warfare, fires are not random. Artillery is positioned, targets are planned,

and effects are delivered at decisive points to support maneuver. Sustainment is fires

by another means. Supplies are ammunition. Distribution is the delivery system. Maneuver forces are

the targets. Just as fires prioritize targets, sustainment prioritizes units. Support is not

equal—it is proportional to the maneuver force and the effects required. Fires overlap—artillery,

air, and naval gunfire. Sustainment must do the same. Ground,
