5. Task-Centred Intervention Task-centred practice is often considered one of the most
widely used approaches in modern social work assessment and intervention. Rather than being
viewed as a strict theory, it is often seen as a practical framework of activities that
can be applied across many situations. Its foundation lies in client agreement or the client’s
recognition of a legal basis for action. The main focus is to shift from identifying
problems to setting and achieving goals, moving from what is wrong toward what is needed.
Change is facilitated through specific tasks that emphasize the client’s strengths as much as possible.
