I’m 28, and until recently, I thought I was in a stable, adult relationship.

I’d been with my partner, Alex (30), for four years. We lived together,

shared bills, talked about marriage in that vague “someday soon” way. Nothing felt rushed,

but nothing felt uncertain either. My family loved Alex. Especially my mom.

She used to say she trusted him more than most people I dated before, which should’ve
