The first cities in human history were actually terrifying. Back in the Neolithic era,
people in Jericho didn't just bury their dead; they detached the heads, plastered over the
skulls to recreate faces, and kept them in the living room. Then you have Çatalhöyük,
a city with zero streets. You had to walk on the roofs and climb down a ladder
to get inside your house, where you slept on top of your buried ancestors.
Eventually, the Sumerians invented writing just to track their taxes and beer.
We literally owe civilization to people who kept skulls as decorations.
