The Alarm Wasn't for Me

I didn’t have a plan. Just fear. The belt jolted forward,

and everything started moving at once. Potatoes rolling. Machines screaming. No time to think.

So I did the only thing I could. I jumped. Not far. Not graceful.

Just enough to fall off the edge. I hit the floor hard. Pain shot through

me, and I froze. If anyone saw me… that was it. Boots passed inches

from my face. One step closer and— A loud alarm blared. Everyone turned

away. I rolled under a metal shelf, holding my breath, listening to the

machines chew through what I almost became. I was alive. But trapped. Alone.
