The Amazon's Boiling River

There’s a river in the Amazon that gets so hot… it can literally boil animals alive.

Deep inside the Peruvian Amazon lies the Shanay-Timpishka, also called the Boiling River.

While most hot rivers come from volcanoes, this one is hundreds of kilometers away from any volcano.

Yet its temperature can reach over 90°C, almost the same as boiling water! Animals that fall

in don’t stand a chance — the heat cooks them instantly. Scientists think the water is heated

deep underground and pushed back up to the surface. A boiling river… hidden in the rainforest.
