Welcome to a tale of empires, power, and an astonishingly swift conflict:
The Anglo-Zanzibar War. Our story begins in 1896, off the sun-drenched coast of Zanzibar,
then a British protectorate. The death of the Sultan sparked a succession crisis,
prompting a decisive British intervention. A new Sultan seized power without British consent,
who demanded his immediate abdication. With no response, a firm ultimatum was issued:
surrender by 9 AM, or face bombardment. Precisely at 9 AM on August
27th, the British fleet opened fire, as promised. Their primary targets
were the Sultan's palace and his sole armed vessel, the HMS Glasgow. The bombardment was
