Rome fell because of one single battle that nobody talks about. 378 AD,
Emperor Valens thought he could crush some barbarian tribes near a place called Adrianople.
Instead, Gothic cavalry slaughtered two thirds of the Roman army and killed the emperor himself.
This wasn't just a military defeat, it was the beginning of the end. The Western Roman
Empire never recovered from losing that many trained soldiers. Within a century, barbarian tribes
were walking into Rome like they owned the place. One afternoon of bad decisions literally
ended a thousand year empire.
