By 2012, Instagram only had about 13 employees. They had huge influence, but they still had
basically no revenue model. Then Mark Zuckerberg from Facebook called. He made an offer:
$1 billion in cash and stock. A lot of people thought he was crazy. Instagram wasn't
making money. But Zuckerberg understood attention. He knew people's time and focus are
more valuable than almost anything. Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger said yes.
Overnight, they became multimillionaires. Instagram went from a struggling, confusing app idea
to a billion-dollar company in about two years.
