Before id Software, shooters were clunky labyrinth games with slow movement and weird controls.
Then these guys — John Carmack, John Romero, Tom Hall, Adrian Carmack —
figured out something nobody else had. They invented a new way of drawing graphics insanely
fast. Carmack called it raycasting. Basically? Trick the computer
into thinking a 2D map is a full 3D world. And boom — the first true 3D FPS experience
was born. In 1992 they released Wolfenstein 3D. And gamers LOST their minds.”
