The Birth of Lord Ganesha

Before Lord Ganesha became the remover of obstacles, there was a story of sacrifice.

Goddess Parvati, longing for a child, created a boy from turmeric paste.

She breathed life into him and named her creation Ganesha. She asked him

to guard her door while she bathed. Lord Shiva returned home,

but Ganesha fearlessly stopped him from entering. Angered by this disrespect,

Shiva severed the boy's head. Parvati's grief shook the universe. Shiva vowed to

bring her son back. His followers returned with the head of a mighty

elephant. Shiva placed it on the boy, breathing life into him once more.
