The Boycott of Shiʿb Abī Ṭālib

The boycott endured for nearly three years. <break time="0.8s" /> From the seventh to the tenth year

of Prophethood. <break time="0.8s" /> Banū Hāshim and Banū al-Muṭṭalib were confined to a narrow valley

called Shiʿb Abī Ṭālib. <break time="0.8s" /> Trade was forbidden. <break time="0.8s" /> Food was blocked. <break time="0.8s" /> Contact was cut. <break time="0.8s" />

Starvation became severe. <break time="0.8s" /> Leaves were eaten to survive. <break time="0.8s" /> Cries of hunger

could be heard beyond the valley. <break time="0.8s" /> Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) remained with his

people. <break time="0.8s" /> He did not leave them. <break time="0.8s" /> He endured what they endured. <break time="0.8s" />

As the years passed, some among Quraysh felt unease. <break time="0.8s" /> They saw the suffering. <break time="0.8s" /> And questioned

the cruelty of the boycott. <break time="0.8s" /> During this time, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)
