Immigration in America isn't broken by accident. It's designed to be confusing.
Right now an Indian engineer waits twelve years for a green card while overstayers work
indefinitely. The 1965 Immigration Act abolished quotas but created family preference categories with
twenty year backlogs. Then Reagan's 1986 amnesty legalized three million people but never fixed the
underlying system. Today we have Dreamers who have lived here since childhood stuck in
legal limbo. Naturalized citizens fear sponsoring relatives because wait times are longer than most
home mortgages. Natural born citizens watch their communities change without understanding why.
Both sides agree it is broken but argue symptoms instead of causes. The real fix
