The Burden of a False Conviction

Welcome back to "Three Times A Victim" by Bruce Whealton. I'm Sarah with Marcus. Last episode,

we witnessed Bruce being ambushed by his own lawyer into accepting a coercive plea deal - forced

to declare guilt for a crime he didn't commit under threat of a decade in prison. Today,

we enter Section Four: "Aftermath - A Case that I Never Closed," covering chapters 17 and

18, where we see the devastating long-term consequences of living with this

lie. Bruce opens Section Four with devastating honesty: "I wish I could tell you

this story had a resolution, that justice was served, or that time healed

what had been broken. But this story doesn't end that way." For thirteen years, he describes existing
