The Call About My Ticket

I almost didn’t check the numbers. It was near the end of my shift. I was tired,

bored, and just scrolling. I matched the first number. Then the second.

I remember smiling… because that never happens. By the fourth number, my stomach dropped.

Not excitement. Something else. I checked the date. I checked the draw time.

I checked the ticket again. Everything lined up. I told myself it

had to be a glitch. I refreshed the page. Then I refreshed it again.

Same numbers. Every time. I walked outside just to clear my head.

The parking lot was empty. Too quiet for that time of night. That’s when my phone
