The Chainsaw Incident in the DMZ

In 1976, after two U.S. soldiers were killed trimming a tree in the Korean DMZ,

the U.S. responded with an operation involving chainsaws, 27 vehicles,

and dozens of troops — just to cut down a single tree. That tree started an international

crisis.
