The Dark Side of IT Consulting

The critique is pretty severe. Many large SIs face vendor bias, steering clients

towards solutions that maximize the SI's billing structure, not necessarily the client's best

interest. And they're often criticized for putting inexperienced staff on critical work,

forcing the client to pay to train the SI's workforce on their own processes. Which means they

focus on configuring the technical layer, but they leave the hard, crucial integration

work, the process modeling and the data transformation, to the client. Precisely.

That gap in responsibility, especially in data modeling and business process enforcement, is where budget

overruns begin and missing functionality is discovered way too late.
