The Diver Who Cheated Death

In 2005, a man was scuba diving alone off the coast of Australia when his oxygen

tank malfunctioned 90 feet underwater. He had about three minutes of air left and was too deep

to surface quickly without getting the bends, which could paralyze or kill him.

Panic set in. He looked up and could barely see the sunlight through 90 feet of dark

water. His lungs were screaming for air. He had a choice: surface fast and

risk death from decompression, or drown trying to ascend slowly. He decided to risk

it and shot upward as fast as he could. But halfway up, his vision started going black.
