The Dual Nature of Religion

The desire to understand our place in the universe is exactly what separates humans from animals.

For centuries, every single society has used religion to explain the unexplainable. It is way more than

just believing in a supernatural power. It is a system of rituals that glues us together and

controls behavior better than any police force ever could. We divide the world

into the sacred and the ordinary just to make sense of the chaos. But while it builds

community, Marx famously called it the opium of the masses. Religion remains

the ultimate tool for control, comfort, and conflict.
