The Empty Back Seat

Have you ever checked your back seat and realized someone was sitting there?

This story gets told a lot where I grew up. Late night.

Empty road. One driver. She kept hearing a soft click behind her.

Like a seatbelt being adjusted. She checked the rearview mirror. Nothing.

Back seat was empty. A few minutes later, another click.

This time, breathing. She didn’t turn around. She just drove.

When she finally got home. The back seat was buckled. She never drives

at night anymore.
