A 14th-century king was forced to publicly read his own resignation letter. Imagine being King
Richard II. You start as a boy-wonder, bravely facing a massive rebellion at just 14.
But as you get older, you become a tyrant, favoring your friends and making powerful enemies.
You exile your own cousin, Henry Bolingbroke, and then steal his inheritance.
Huge mistake. While you’re away in Ireland, Henry comes back. He gathers an army,
captures you, and on September 30, 1399, forces you to stand
before Parliament. There, you read a pre-written script renouncing your own crown for
being "unworthy." Henry takes the throne, and you’re sent to a castle,
